Quick Run Down on Online Dating Sites

Let’s face it, in today’s world, the Internet is a daily part of our lives.  I don’t think it is a fad that will be going away anytime soon.  Essentially, you can do almost anything from shopping to socializing to reading the news and watching movies, all without leaving your computer desk. In August of 2009, Internet World Stats, based on Nielsen Online, concluded that there were 227,719,000 Internet users, or 74.1% of the population.

So, how many of those people have used a dating site? Well, that is tough to say. I do not think there are any real statistics on this (not that I found). But, Match.com did a survey released in April 2010 that determined 17% of the married couples surveyed met online. They also asked another group of singles how they met and 20% of the participants stated they met on a dating site.

Well, I guess that is not a ton, but it is still a significant amount of people.  And, that was just based on two relatively small surveys.

Everyone’s Doing It!

Online dating is not something that just creepy old guys with a dial-up computer sitting in the corner of a dark basement participate in. It is becoming more and more widespread! I recall a few years back when couples were coy about admitting how they met, if it was online.  Sometimes, they would giggle, like it was something to be embarrassed about. Other times, they would tell a pre-arranged concocted story the couple agreed upon on how they met. Some people are just poor liars.

Let me tell you ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the new age of technology.  It has been here awhile, but dating sites are becoming more and more mainstream.  It is becoming a more socially acceptable way to meet the next best thing. Of course eharmony.com and Match.com have been around for awhile, but new ones pop up everyday.
